Ford India showcased its iconic muscle car, the Mustang, at the 2016 Auto Expo. The presence of the model at the event also marked its Indian debut ahead of its launch. Last month, on the 12th of July; the company launched the Mustang GT in the country with a price tag of Rs. 65 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi).
Now, barely a month into the launch of the pony car, the Mustang has managed to claim the title of India’s best selling sports car. Earlier this year, the muscle car won the title as the world’s best selling sports coupe for the year 2015. We even had the opportunity to drive the Mustang GT on the track at the BIC in Delhi.
Ford had allotted 100 units of the Mustang for the current year and it is believed that all these units have now been accounted for. Of these, 35 units were delivered in the first month of its launch itself.
Ford India launched the iconic car in India in the fastback form, christened as the Mustang GT. At the heart of the muscle car is the 5.0 litre V8 engine that produces a maximum power output of 435 hp while the peak torque is rated at 542 Nm. This motor helps the Mustang sprint from 0-100 kmph in a mere 4.5 seconds all the way to a top speed of 250 kmph. This power is sent to the rear wheels via six speed SelectShift automatic transmission. The Mustang is brought to India via the CBU route and is retailed only through select dealerships in Mumbai and New Delhi.
