Confirmed: 2016 Toyota Fortuner India launch in November 2016

According to sources, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner, initially rumoured to launch in India next year, will now launch in the first week of November 2016. Based on Toyota’s updated Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) platform that also straddles the second-generation Innova (Crysta), the all-new Fortuner is 90 mm longer and 15 mm wider than the outgoing model, while the wheelbase (2,750 mm) remains identical.

For India, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner will be powered by a choice of Toyota’s new “GD” series of four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engines – a 2.4-litre unit only available with a 6-speed manual transmission, and a 2.8-litre unit exclusively available with a 6-speed automatic transmission as well as 4WD; both drive-trains shared with the Innova Crysta. It remains to be see if the 2.7-litre petrol engine from the Innova Crysta makes its way under the India-spec, 2016 Toyota Fortuner’s hood.

The 2016 Toyota Fortuner range is also expected to spawn six variants, with top-spec variants featuring projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED tail lamps, A-TRC Traction Control (TRC) system, Downhill Assist Control (DAC) system, electric tailgate, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, cruise control, a 7-inch touchscreen equipped T-Connect infotainment system with satellite navigation, reversing camera, an engine start/stop button, along with three driving modes.
