The Tata Tiago is the entry-level hatchback from Tata Motors. Based on the impact design language, this hatchback is quite a looker. It comes with both diesel and petrol powered engines, paired with manual transmissions as standard. Customers also get an option of an AMT type automatic gearbox but only with the petrol engine. Prices of this hatchback start from INR 4,39,990, ex-showroom, Delhi.
Designed under the Impact philosophy of Tata, the Tiago is quite a good looking hatchback. Up front, the car comes with a signature hexagon grille with multifaceted Tata emblem. Flanking this neat looking grille are projector headlights, with a touch of chrome. Moving to the side, one can notice the dual tone, 15-inch alloy wheels and a fibre cladding at the lower side. The rear of the car gets a blacked out spoiler, adding a touch of sportiness. The roof too, gets the blacked-out treatment.
The insides of the car welcome you with a lovely touch of dual tone shades. The AC vents get body coloured surrounds, adding a third colour on the inside. The seats are contoured to hug your body tightly. The centre of the dash comes with a Android Auto enabled, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system by Harman. This infotainment screen pumps music through a premium sounding 8-speaker system, not seen on any other car in this segment. Steering mounted controls further add to the convenience factor.
The Tiago uses a Safety Energy Absorbing Body Structure, which would protect the occupants in case of any mishap. Moreover, the car also comes with ABS and EBD as standard, along with dual airbags. Rear parking sensors, along with a smart rear wiper help to make the process of reversing much safer.
The Tiago comes with a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol unit that produces 85 ps at 6000 rpm and 114 Nm at 3500 rpm. Tata also offers a 1.5-litre, Revotorq diesel motor tuned to produce 70 ps at 4000rpm and 140 Nm at 3000 rpm. As standard, a 5-speed stick shift is offered, with the petrol engine getting an optional AMT. Claimed fuel efficiency for the petrol motor is 23 kmpl, while the diesel returns 27 kmpl.
The car also comes with three driving modes to choose from - Eco, City and Sport, which tune the performance of the engine and can be selected by the driver to suit their personal taste.
Tata Tiago price starts from INR 4.4 Lakh to INR 6.62 Lakh.
I’m really bad with flowery introductions with traces of well paraphrased history lessons, so let’s come to the point. The Tata Tiago is here to simply do one thing – turn around the company’s ailing fortunes. It heralds the turnaround for a company that gave us the Indica, way back in 1997, and made a nation proud. The all-new, minty fresh Tiago is expected to cause similar levels of stir in the minds of both the youth and Tata loyalists alike. How does it perform? We find out.
