Land Rover Discovery (facelift)
- Launch: July 2014
- Engine options: 3.0 Diesel
- Price: INR 1-1.11 crores
Tata owned British premium car maker Jaguar Land Rover will launch the Discovery facelift in India next year. Visually, there is nothing much to differentiate the updated car from the pre-facelift model. However, the updated Discover features some really small details that hint at JLR’s future of launching Discover as a sub brand of Land Rover (akin to how Range Rover is the premium brand of Land Rover).
The updated Discover could infuse some more excitement with the fast growing British brand of premium SUVs in India.
Land rover Range Rover Evoque (9 speed)
- Launch: April 2014
- Engine options: 2.0 Petrol, 2.2 Diesel
- Price: INR 55-65 lakhs
Coming our way early next year is an updated Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. While the updated car doesn’t boast of a facelift or additional equipment, it does sport a really important mechanical upgrade- a new ZF sourced nine speed automatic transmission. The advent of new age gearbox will result into better performance and efficiency, along with a significant increase in the refinement and responsiveness.
Mahindra Scorpio (facelift)
- Launch: April 2014
- Engine options: 2.2 Diesel, 2.5 Diesel
- Price: INR 8.5-12 lakhs
It is a very well known fact that Mahindra plans to soon launch a comprehensively updated Scorpio in the fast heating up SUV market. Set to make its public debut at the Auto Expo 2014, the Scorpio facelift could be launched around April next year. The updated Scorpio would feature a thoroughly revised front fascia, which would sport new headlights, new grille and a new front bumper. Interiors too should get a minor revision, with the car getting an upholstery change and some additional equipment. The facelift should enable the decade old SUV to soldier on for some more time, before the complete model replacement arrives in 2015.Â
Maruti Suzuki AStar (YL7)
- Launch: April 2014
- Engine options: 1.0 Petrol
- Price: INR 4-5 lakhs
Set for an Auto Expo 2014 debut, the YL7 is the next gen Suzuki Alto. In India, the new Alto will replace the AStar, which never really set the sales charts on fire. It is expected that unlike the AStar, the next gen model will boast of roomy interiors and wouldn’t have ‘dolly car’ appearance.
The YL7 could become the next ‘big’ small car from Maruti Suzuki.
Maruti Suzuki SX4 (YL1)
- Launch: May 2014
- Engine: 1.4 Petrol, 1.6 Petrol, 1.3 Diesel
- Engine options: 1.4 P, 1.3 D
It is a well known fact that MSIL has been testing the YL1 sedan since some time now. Set to be launched in middle of next year, the YL7 will be a complete replacement for the slow-selling SX4. Unlike the SX4, the YL7 hasn’t been derived from a crossover and hence, seems to have more ‘sedan-like’ proportions. The car is likely to go on sale with three engine options- 1.4 P, 1.6 P and 1.3 D. While the car will replace the SX4, it is being expected that it would be positioned slightly above the sedan it will replace. From what we know, it would have a features list that would be at par with that of its immediate rivals. Safely expect the YL1 to boast of roomy and pleasant interiors.
Mercedes CLA Class sedan
- Launch: June 2014
- Engine options: 1.6 Petrol, 2.2 Diesel
- Price: INR 24-28 lakh
If the Audi A3 sedan here, can the Mercedes CLA be far behind? Becoming a direct rival to the upcoming Audi A3 sedan will be the new Mercedes CLA Sedan. Visually a baby CLS, the new sedan is basically a new A Class underneath and will become the entry level sedan in Mercedes India’s product portfolio. The CLA sedan is being said to be almost as roomy as the current gen C Class.
For all we know, luxury is looking to become much more affordable in the country!
