Datsun Go

  • Launch: March 2014
  • Engine options: 1.2 Petrol
  • Price: Rs 3.0-3.99 lakhs

Nissan-Datsun will launch the Go hatchback in India in March next year. Slated to bring along affordable-yet-world-class motoring to us, the Go will be seen nibbling into sales of established rivals such as the Maruti WagonR and the last gen Hyundai i10. The Datsun Go is based on the last gen Micra platform and will be powered from the current Micra’s 1.2 litre petrol engine, albeit in a de-tuned state. The car boasts of highly function interiors and will offer a bench-like front seats that are sure to invoke memories of the Padmini and the Ambassador. Large interiors space and low cost will be the USPs of the upcoming hatchback.

There are good chances that the Go will change the way people look at low-cost cars in India

Datsun Go+ MPV

  • Launch: August 2014
  • Engine options: 1.2 Petrol
  • Price: INR 4.5-5.5 lakhs

Following the launch of the Datsun Go hatchback will be its MPV variant. The Go based MPV, which has been christened as the Go+, will offer more space than the hatchback and importantly, will have a third row of seat. However, the MPV will measure less than 4 metres in length and will hence, benefit from the duty relaxations being provided by the Govt. of India. This would translate into an aggressive price tag and the Go+ is looking all set to initiate the price wars in the fast emerging mini MPV segment of India. Powering the Go+ MPV will be the same 1.2 litre petrol engine that would power its hatchback sibling. However, we really won’t be surprised if Nissan-Datsun ends up plonking an oil burner into the Go+, which would probably make the Go+ a favorite among the fleet operators.

The Go+ has good chances of eating into the sales of the Ertiga, which is currently the highest selling mini MPV in India.

Fiat Linea (facelift)

  • Launch: April 2014
  • Engine options: 1.4 Petrol, 1.3 Diesel, 1.6 Diesel
  • Price: INR 7.5-10 lakhs

Now that the Fiat Linea Classic is here, can the facelift be far behind?

Expected to be launched in April next year, the Linea facelift will sport a comprehensively updated front and rear end and will be sold alongside the Classic, which is basically a stripped down pre-facelift model. Along with a host of new features, the updated Linea is expected to bring along the new 1.6 litre Multijet diesel engine, which will be sold alongside the 1.4 litre T-Jet petrol and the 1.3 Litre Multijet oil burner. The Linea facelift will be aimed squarely at Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna, new Ford Fiesta and the likes.

The Fiat Linea facelift would give Fiat India another shot at the fast growing upper C segment of our car market.

Force Motors Large MPV

  • Launch: July 2014
  • Engine options: 2.2 Diesel
  • Price: INR 10-13 lakhs

Force Motors will be seen jumping into the large MPV segment sometime in the middle of next year. The upcoming Force Motors large MPV, will be more spacious than the Innova, and should appeal to fleet owners and joint families. It could also make for a really comfortable office fleet shuttle. From what we can make out from various spy pics of this upcoming vehicle, the Force MPV would be based on the now defunct Mercedes-Benz Viano van. Other than using the bodyshell, the Force MPV will also found a Mercedes heart, as it would be powered by a 139bhp, 2.2-litre, OM611 common rail diesel engine.

The upcoming Force MPV could very well initiate a new sub-segment in the MPV market of our country.

Ford Fiesta (facelift)

  • Launch: July 2014
  • Engine options: 1.5 Petrol, 1.5 Diesel
  • Price: INR 6.5-10 lakhs

The Fiesta recently got an ‘Aston Martin face’ and the good news is that the recent facelift is headed to India next year. The ungainly rear end too has been taken care of the Fiesta facelift sports a considerably more attractive bum. The upcoming Ford Fiesta facelift should bestow the new gen Fiesta with a new lease of life in India. If the Ecosport’s pricing is anything to go by, Ford has learnt it lessons pretty well and the upcoming Fiesta facelift could bring along a reasonable price cut.

The upcoming facelift could very well be what the doctor ordered for the Fiesta sedan in India.

Honda Jazz (new)

2014-Honda-Jazz-India-launch

  • Launch: October 2014
  • Engine options: 1.2 Petrol, 1.5 Diesel
  • Price: INR 5-7.5 lakh

The Honda Jazz is planning a re-entry into the ever-growing hatchback segment of our car market. And this time, the car will be equipped with the quintessential diesel engine option. The engine options is not the only new bit here. Rather, the whole car is all-new and is basically the next generation model of the Jazz we all know of. Expect more features, more space and all the traditional Honda strengths. The car will also have a petrol engine option, that of the 1.2 litre iVTEC four pot motor. This is the same engine that powered the earlier car but safely expect it to get a re-map for the new gen model.

Having burnt its fingers with the pricing of the Jazz previously, expect Honda to price the new gen model ultra competitively.
