Upcoming Car Launches India 2014: The Most Comprehensive List Online

Honda Mobilio

  • Launch: December 2014
  • Engine options: 1.5 Petrol, 1.5 Diesel
  • Price: INR 8-10 lakhs

Another all new Honda that is headed our way is the new Brio-based Mobilio MPV. While the Mobilio is based on the Brio, it doesn’t measure less than four metres in length and hence, won’t be entitled to duty relaxations being provided by the Govt. of India. This simply means that it would be quite a task for Honda Cars India to position the upcoming MPV squarely against the Ertiga, which would be a direct rival to this vehicle. The Honda Mobilio will go on sale in India with a 1.5 litre petrol and a 1.5 litre diesel engine. While the petrol engine comes from the City sedan, the oil burner is the same unit that powers the Amaze, the new gen City and the new gen Brio.

It would be interesting to see if the advent of Mobilio would spell trouble for the Ertiga.

Hyundai Grand i10 sedan

  • Launch: April 2014
  • Engine options: 1.2 Petrol, 1.1 Diesel
  • Price: INR 5-7 lakhs

Hyundai will showcase a Grand i10 based compact sedan at the upcoming Auto Expo in February next year. This sedan will most likely go on sale around the advent of the new fiscal and will find itself slotted between the i20 hatchback and the Verna sedan. Basically, the Grand i10 will be a logical successor to the now defunct Accent and thanks to its sub 4m credentials, will benefit from duty relaxations, which would lead to an ultra competitive pricing. The Grand i10 compact sedan would be a Maruti Dzire and Honda Amaze adversary and is likely to be high on equipment. Safely expect the hatchback’s first in class features such as cooled glovebox, rear AC vents and Hard-drive equipped audio system to make it to the upcoming compact sedan.

The Hyundai Grand i10 sedan will be powered by the same 1.1 litre CRDI diesel and 1.2 litre Kappa petrol engines that power the hatchback.

Hyundai i20 (new)

  • Launch: November 2014
  • Engine options: 1.2 Petrol, 1.4 Petrol, 1.4 Diesel
  • Price: INR 5.25-8 lakhs

That the Korean auto giant is busy readying the next gen i20 is a well known fact. The next gen i20 will make it to us soon after its public debut next year and safely expect the next car to be marginally larger and better equipped than the current model. The next gen i20 will feature a more modern (and striking) exterior design and could come with some first-in-class features. It is expected that the 2015 Hyundai i20, which will be based on a new platform, will borrow its engine options from the current model.

It would be interesting to see the new gen i20 and the new gen Jazz locking horns on battleground India.

Hyundai Elanta (facelift)

  • Launch: August 2014
  • Engine options: 1.8 Petrol, 1.6 Diesel
  • Price: INR 13-16.5 lakh

The Elantra (also sold as the Avante in some markets) got a ‘blink-and-miss’ facelift earlier this year and the quite unsurprisingly, the updated car is headed our way for a mid 2014 launch. The Elantra facelift sports minor visual upgrades and is better equipped than the current model. Other than a slight visual makeover and addition of features, the car remains unchanged and continues to be powered by the same set of engines.

In all probability, the Elantra facelift will warrant a slight premium over the current model but the addition of features is sure to make it a more worthy rival to our hot favorite, the new Skoda Octavia.

Hyundai MPV (new)

That the Korean auto giant is readying a MPV is a well known fact. The upcoming Hyundai MPV, like many other upcoming MPVs, will be a Maruti Ertiga adversary and could share its platform with the new gen i10. This means there are good chances that the car will measure less than 4 metres in length and would benefit from duty cuts. Visually, it could carry several design cues that were seen on the Hexa Space concept that was showcased at the last Auto Expo in 2012.

The upcoming Hyundai MPV will join the likes of other soon-to-be-launched vehicles such as the Honda Mobilio and the Datsun Go, all of which can very well make life tougher for the high selling Maruti Ertiga.

Hyundai Santa Fe (new)

2014-hyundai-santa-fe

  • Launch: February 2014
  • Engine options: 2.2 Diesel
  • Price: Rs 25 lakhs

Hyundai will launch the latest gen Santa Fe at the Auto Expo in February next year. The latest gen Santa Fe will completely replace the current model and will most likely retail at the same price point. The new Santa Fe features Hyundai’s Storm Edge design language, which is basically the evolution of Fluidic Sculpture. The Storm Edge has now given way to the Fluidic Precision. Anyway, the new Santa Fe will continue to be powered by the current car’s motor, which means that it would feature the well sorted out 2.2 litre CRDI diesel engine.

Equipped with high end features, attractive styling and a sufficiently potent oil burner, the new Santa Fe might very well become the most successful flagship product from HMIL, ever!
