Ahead of its launch in India next week, the engine specifications of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra have been leaked on the web. Scheduled to launch on 24th August, the 2017 Elantra was first unveiled last year at the company’s Global R&D center in Namyang, South Korea. Test mules of the model have been spied in India on various occasions in the last few months. This sixth generation upcoming Elantra, once launched; will rival the Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia and the Volkswagen Jetta.

Powering the India-spec Elantra would be a 2.0 litre four cylinder Dual VTVT petrol engine and a 1.6 litre CRDi engine. While the gasoline motor is tuned to produce a power output of 152 PS and 190 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm, the diesel burner is capable of producing 128 PS and while the peak torque of 265 Nm will come up at 1900-2700 rpm. The former will return a fuel efficiency of 14.6 kmpl while the latter will have a fuel economy of 22.4 kmpl, both in manual transmission. Fuel efficiency figures of the automatic variants remain unknown.

The 2017 Elantra will be available in shades of Blue red, black, silver and white. The variants, which will stand to remain the same for the petrol and diesel derivatives, include – S, SX, SX AT, SX(O), SX(O) AT. The model will come with a 3 years and unlimited mileage warranty while 3 home visits by the service team will also be included. The upcoming Elantra can hold 50 litres of fuel in one go while the boot space can accommodate 458 litres of luggage. The turning radius is said to be 5.3m while the ground clearance stands at 170 mm.

A few notable features on the exterior of the model include projector headlamps, projector foglamps, 16 inch alloy wheels, chrome door handles, smart boot opening (enables the boot to be opened from a distance of 3 feet in 3 seconds). Moving on the interiors, the sixth generation Elantra comes equipped with steering mounted controls, a welcome display, push button start, cruise control, an eight inch touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay, anti pinch sunroof, rear arm rest, rear AC vents, automatic climate control with separate temperature settings for the driver and co-passenger and 60:40 rear seat split.
