Even as the thoughts of the Eastern Freeway accident are fresh in our minds, yet another case of alleged overspeeding surfaces on the web. What was supposed to be a night of fun turned into tragedy when six occupants of an SUV turned turtle after hitting a divider while speeding on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH).
The driver of the SUV, a Mahindra XUV500, was later identified as Lalit Jain, a businessman from Mulund. The incident occurred around 2:15 am when Lalit, who was allegedly driving the car at a high speed, lost control of the vehicle. This resulted in the car jumping over the divider and turning turtle on the other side of the road. The impact of the crash was such that the front bumper came off while both, the front and rear windshield were shattered.
All the injured were taken to Sion hospital where Lalit passed away two hours after he was admitted. It remains unknown whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol. Currently, the officials at Chunabhatti police station have filed a case of accidental death.
