After being caught undisguised in China a couple of times, the upcoming Volkswagen Teramont large SUV has been officially teased in a new video. Still wearing camouflage, the new Volkswagen Teramont will hit the North American market in 2017, while a Chinese launch is expected by the end of this year. Previewed by the VW CrossBlue concept from 2013, the new Teramont measures over 5 meters long, almost 2 metres wide and 1.7 meters tall, making it bigger than the Touareg, VW’s current flagship SUV.

Inside, the Teramont’s 2.98 meter long wheelbase allows it to accommodate seven occupants with a three-row seating setup. With styling heavily influenced by the CrossBlue concept, the US-spec Teramont will be powered by either a 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder petrol engine producing 238 hp, or a 3.6-liter V6 petrol engine delivering 280 hp. The VW Teramont is expected to have its world premiere at the 2016 LA Auto Show in November 2016.

While the China-spec VW Teramont will be locally manufactured by the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture, the Teramont for America will be manufactured at VW’s Chattanooga plant in Tennessee. The company has confirmed that the VW Teramont will go on sale in North America in March-June 2017, while an Indian launch is expected sometime after that.
