Bookings for the Renault Kwid 1.0L now open

First showcased as a concept during the 2014 Auto Expo, Renault India launched the Kwid in September last year. The hatchback, launched with a price tag of Rs. 2.56 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) was an instant hit and has already shifted 100,000 units. During this year’s Auto Expo, the French automobile manufacturer showed two upcoming variants of the Kwid – a 1.0L engine variant and an AMT variant.

We had earlier reported that Renault India plans to launch the Kwid 1.0L variant in the market during the month of August. The model was spied during its public road tests on a few occasions. Now, it is said that Renault will launch the Kwid with the 1.0L motor by as early as the end of this month.

Reports suggest that select dealerships of Renault have begun accepting bookings for the upcoming model while deliveries are likely to take place by October. There is no update on the AMT variant, and is hence likely to be introduced later during the vehicle’s lifecycle. The 1.0L SCe motor equipped Kwid would produce approximately 67 hp. This engine will be mated to the conventional five speed manual transmission.

Currently powering the Kwid is a 799cc 3 cylinder DOHC engine that develops a power output of 54 PS at 5678 rpm while the peak torque of 72 Nm comes up at 4386 rpm. This engine comes mated to a five speed manual transmission.

Once launched by the end of August, the Renault Kwid 1.0L could command a price tag of approximately Rs. 4 lakh.
