Earlier this month, we reported when it emerged that BMW India will be launching a cheaper 5 seater version of the X5. BMW India has now finally launched the BMW X5 Expedition, which is substantially cheaper than the 7 seater model but loses out on quite a bit of equipment.
The BMW X5 Expedition gets bi-xenon headlamps instead of adaptive LED units. The LED fog lamps are also absent on this model. On the mechanical front, BMW has replaced the Steptronic Sport version gearbox with a standard Steptronic 8-speed unit. The music system in the Expedition version is a 9-speaker unit instead of the 16-speaker Harman Kardon system. BMW Apps, the satellite navigation system and hard drive function have also been given a miss. Instead, the model gets a 16.5-cm display without the DVD drive and handwriting recognition.
On the external front, the BMW X5 Expedition has considerable differences when compared to the higher variant. It does not get titanium moulding on the bumpers and the tailpipe finished is in matte silver. The kidney grille loses out on titanium finish too.
As already reported, the BMW X5 Expedition version misses out on the third row of seats making it a strict 5 seater. The BMW X5 Expedition is priced at Rs 64.9 lakh (ex-showroom, all India), which is Rs 6 lakh cheaper than the Rs 70.9 lakh Design Pure Experience.
