In August last year, we were the first one to break the news that Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 will be getting a diesel powerplant. Although details aren’t available about the Alto 800 diesel, Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel will be getting the same motor. In an earlier spy video, you could hear the loud 2 cylinder diesel engine in the Celerio. Now, a new spy video has hit the cyberspace, which, according to the sources’ claim says that the engine noise on the Celerio diesel has been reduced significantly.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel will be powered by a new 2 pot 800cc diesel motor which will crank out around 45-50 bhp of max power and 120-130 Nm of peak torque. This engine has been developed in partnership with Suzuki, Japan. The 2 pot motor will be frugal and will deliver a claimed fuel efficiency of around 30 kmpl, which will translate into 24-25 kmpl in actual driving conditions.
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel will be available in four trim levels- LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi(O). Unlike the petrol model which is the first car in India to come with Automated Manual Transmission, the diesel variant will be offered only with the manual transmission to keep the costs in check. In terms of features and interiors, the Celerio diesel will remain identical to the petrol version except for minor tweaks to the suspension in order to compensate for the extra weight of the diesel mill.
Upon its launch, the Celerio diesel will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 diesel and the Chevrolet Beat diesel. According to earlier reports, Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel will have a starting price of INR 4.6 lakhs.
