With the Government revising the GST norms from 12% to 5%, Greaves Cotton Limited’s mobility division has announced that their flagship high-speed e-scooter Ampere Zeal will now be available at Rs. 67,000 approx (ex-Bangalore showroom). This is after a reduction of approximately Rs. 5,000, post the GST reduction on electric vehicles. The e-scooter was earlier priced at Rs. 72,000 (Ex Bangalore showroom). This Ampere Zeal price also includes FAME II incentives.
Ampere Electric Vehicles is a part of a diversified engineering company Greaves Cotton. Ampere was acquired by Greaves Cotton in August 2018 and has been focused on building sustainable, affordable and clean mobility solution for the last mile connectivity especially for people in tier-II and tier-III cities with a less-developed public transport system. Greaves Cotton recently increased its stake in Ampere from 67% to 81%.

The Zeal high-speed scooter gets a top speed of about 55kmph and a total range of 75km on a single charge. The charging time for the scooter is about 5.5 hours. Under the FAME II benefit, the Zeal scooter will attract around Rs 18,000 in subsidy for a regular customer. The Zeal sports an accentuated look with bold styling and attractive body graphics, it gets an LED headlight, a dual-speed mode (economy and power), and accelerates from 0-50kmph in 14 secs. The scooter is also equipped with an anti-theft alarm and is available in five high-gloss metallic shades. Ampere’s electric vehicles also come with a 1-3 year warranty and the products are supported by a strong network of more than 300 Greaves Retail stores and over 5000 aftermarket outlets across India.
As a result of the recent change in GST rate, Ather Energy has revised prices of its 340 and 450 electric scooters, which are currently available for purchase in Bangalore and Chennai. As a result of the rate cut, prices of the Ather 450 have come down by almost INR 9,000. At present, the Ather 450 and 340 retail for INR 1,13,715 & INR 1,02,460 (On-Road prices) in Bangalore respectively. In Chennai, the On-road prices for the same are INR 1,22,224 & INR 1,10,443 for the 450 and the 340 respectively. Prices are higher in Chennai as the scooters ask for INR 3,000 more for their ex-showroom prices in the coastal city and where Karnataka doesn’t charge any road tax for these green vehicles, the State of Tamil Nadu asks for 4% of the vehicle’s ex-showroom price.
