KTM Duke spied in India

2017 KTM 200 and 390 Duke : Fresh details emerge

The new KTM Duke duo are expected to be unveiled at the upcoming 2016 EICMA motorcycle show, scheduled in November. But even before the motorcycles arrive, speculations of the expected feature list has emerged courtesy motoring portal AutoCar India. The latest report suggests that the upcoming 390 Duke will be even more feature packed than its 200cc sibling. The current motorcycles share most of their components but the 390 Duke gets ABS as standard along with a slipper clutch.

First of the many differences between the two is most likely the instrument cluster. The most recent set of spy images of the upcoming 200 Duke suggest that while the 390 Duke will don a LCD instrument cluster, the 200cc variant may continue to use the current generation model’s display. Now there is a possibility that the test mule was of a pre-production motorcycle and thus it was equipped with the old instrument cluster and the final product may get a LCD display. But looking at the images, it appears that the piece is pretty much installed for the long run and is highly unlikely to change. Let’s hold our thoughts on that front till we see the production ready motorcycle.

Sources close to the development of the motorcycles suggest that the upcoming KTM duo will continue to use the same motor as the current models but tuned to be Euro IV compliant. Now remember that KTM already sells a Euro IV compliant RC390 in the European markets which comes equipped with slipper clutch, a larger front disc brake (320mm), Ride-by-wire technology, switchable ABS and a new aluminium exhaust. So it would not be completely incorrect to expect the same features making their way to the 2017 390 Duke.

The report also suggests that while the 200 and the 390 Duke will share the same chassis with a bolt on sub frame, the bigger displacement model will get adjustable front forks with configurable compression and rebound. It’s still too early to state whether those features would be available on the India spec model.
