Suzuki Motorcycles has announced that the brand will showcase the Suzuki Ecstar Moto GP race bike, the 2018 Suzuki RM-Z450, the 2018 Suzuki RM-Z250; and the 2018 Suzuki DR-Z70 at the 2018 Auto Expo. On domestic front, the two-wheeler brand will showcase the Access, the Gixxer and the newly launched Intruder. However, apart from these aforementioned products, we also expect to see Suzuki’s recently spied scooter, the Burgman Street, the newly unveiled 2018 GSX-R1000 MotoGP Replica, the V-Strom 650 and the GSX-S750 at the 2018 Auto Expo.
2018 Suzuki GSX-R1000 MotoGP Replica
Suzuki recently unveiled the MotoGP replica of its litre-class motorcycle, the GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R. The motorcycles were announced for the UK market while there’s no fixed timeline for the Indian market. That being said, we might see the motorcycle at the biyearly motoring event.
Unveiled at a preseason MotoGP test at Sepang, Malaysia, the new livery is an evolution of the eye-catching blue with bold Suzuki wording, but for 2018 introduces the use of a stealthy black to the usual yellow details, and is available on both the GSX-R1000R and GSX-R1000.
Similarities between the production machines and the GSX-RR racers that will be piloted by Andrea Iannone and Alex Rins in 2018 are not limited to paint schemes, with the GSX-R1000 inheriting the same VVT technology as the MotoGP prototype. Moreover, MotoGP technology and know how also extends to a full suite of electronics found on the GSX-R1000R, which comprises of a 10-stage, lean angle-sensitive traction control system and launch control, plus cornering ABS and a bi-directional quickshifter and auto-blipper.
Suzuki V-Strom 650 and V-Strom 650 XT
The 2016 edition INTERMOT witnessed the unveiling of the new V-Strom 650 duo — V-Strom 650 and V-Strom 650 XT. The most significant change on the new V-Strom 650 range was that the engine complies with the Euro 4 emission norms.
Visually, the V-Strom 650 twins have been styled in line with the bigger V-Strom 1000 and now feature a narrower design for the tank, slimmer frame covers and a new tail section that can be used to accommodate a three piece luggage set.
The off-roading version, or the XT variant, comes equipped with spoke wheels and hand guards for more durability on uneven surfaces and added protection respectively. The instrument cluster features a brightness adjustable LCD display that includes the speedometer, odometer, dual trip meter, and the traction control level. It also features a 12V power outlet to charge your phone or satnav device on the go.
Mechanically, the V-Strom 650 duo uses a 645cc V-Twin motor that produces 70 PS at 8800 rpm while the peak torque of 62 Nm comes up at 6500 rpm.
The new V-Strom 650 will compete against the likes of Kawasaki Versys 650, and the upcoming BMW F 750 GS in the Indian market.
Suzuki GSX-S750
Unveiled at the Intermot 2016, the Suzuki GSX-S750 employs the K5 engine architecture. The new 2018 Suzuki GSX-S750 will compete against the likes of Triumph Street Triple, Ducati Monster 797 and the Kawasaki Z900 so expect the prices to hover around INR 9-10 lakh.
On the visual front, the design of the Suzuki GSX-S750 is inspired by its elder brother – GSX-S1000. The chassis performance has been improved with a new swingarm, and braking is enhanced with the addition of radial-mount calipers and new discs. The sharp styling is further complemented by its fairly potent engine.
Similar to the GSX-S1000, the new lightweight and compact instrument panel uses a LCD display that includes speedometer, tachometer, odometer, dual tripmeters, gear position, coolant temperatures, driving range, average fuel consumption, instantaneous fuel consumption, traction control, and a clock functions.
Mechanically, the 749cc liquid cooled inline four cylinder engine makes 113 PS of power at 10,500 rpm and 81 Nm of torque at 9,000rpm. The engine comes mated to a six-speed transmission.
Suzuki Burgman Street
The Suzuki Burgman Street scooter was recently spotted in India which hints at a showcase at the 2018 Auto Expo. While Suzuki showcased the Burgman 650 at the 2016 Auto Expo, we may see the smaller version of the scooter at the 2018 iteration of the motoring event.
The Burgman Street will compete against the likes of Honda Grazia 125 in the Indian market and thus we expect to see a long feature list on the upcoming scooter. The feature list will most likely comprise of a telescopic front suspension, optional front disc brake, digital instrument console, multifunction key-slot, USB charger, LED DRLs (maybe even a full LED headlight) and tubeless tyres.
Internationally, the scooter is sold in 125, 200, 250, 400 and 600cc engine options. Our source close to the developments suggested that the India bound Burgman Street will come with a 125cc engine which will most likely be the same unit that powers the Suzuki Access 125. Mechanical specifications are not likely to be far different from the Suzuki Access 125 either so expect to see the same 124cc 4-stroke, single-cylinder, air cooled engine that is tuned to deliver 8.7 PS of power @ 7,000 rpm and 10.2 Nm of torque @ 5,000 rpm.
