Recently, Kia teased its most awaited SUV, the Sorento, and officially opened pre-bookings for the three-row SUV. The question was when Kia would launch it in India. We now have a confirmed answer. The Kia Sorento will be launched in India on September 4, 2026.
The Sorento will sit above the Seltos and become Kia India’s flagship ICE SUV. It will also be the brand’s first hybrid model in the Indian market.
Kia Sorento: Expected Price And Rivals
The Sorento is expected to be locally assembled in India. This could help Kia keep its price competitive. The SUV is likely to start at around Rs 40 lakh to Rs 42 lakh, ex-showroom.
It will compete with several premium three-row SUVs, including:
- Toyota Fortuner
- Skoda Kodiaq
- Volkswagen Tayron
- MG Majestor
- Jeep Meridian
Hybrid And Diesel Engines
Kia has confirmed that the Sorento will get both hybrid and diesel powertrain options. The international model gives us an idea of what could be offered in India.
| Engine | Power | Torque | Transmission |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.6L Turbo Petrol Hybrid | 238PS | 380Nm | 6-speed AT |
| 2.2L Turbo Diesel | 202PS | 441Nm | 8-speed DCT |
The hybrid setup uses a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor and a 1.5kWh battery. The global Sorento is available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Kia has not yet confirmed which versions will be sold in India.
Large SUV With Three Rows
The Sorento has a length of 4,815mm, width of 1,900mm and height of 1,700mm. Its wheelbase measures 2,815mm.
These dimensions make it larger than the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron.
The SUV is expected to be available with six-seat and seven-seat layouts. Boot space stands at 179 litres with all three rows in use. Folding the rear seats increases the capacity to nearly 1,996 litres.
Design And Features
Kia has given the Sorento a strong SUV look with:
- Vertical LED headlamps
- T-shaped DRLs
- Large Tiger Nose grille
- Vertical LED tail-lamps
- Dual-tone alloy wheels
- Muscular bumpers
- Flared wheel arches
The cabin is expected to get dual 12.3-inch screens, vertical AC vents and a rotary drive selector.
Other expected features include ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, a powered driver’s seat, wireless charging, ambient lighting, a heads-up display and Level 2 ADAS.
