Yamaha Reportedly Working On A Middleweight Adventure Motorcycle

The folks at online motoring portal advrider report that Yamaha might be working on a middleweight adventure motorcycle that will lock horns with the likes of Triumph Tiger 800 XC range, the BMW F800GS and the Ducati Multistrada 950. The report suggests that Yamaha intends to introduce a 850 cc, three-cylinder 115 hp adventure motorcycle.

This one will be a proper off-roader with design cues likely to borrowed from the Tenere-series. Being a proper off-road spec machine, expect the middleweight to feature wire-spoked wheels, long travel suspension and a metal bash plate.

What will propel the new motorcycle?

While it maybe too early to comment on the exact power plant on the new machine, the most likely candidate for the job is the MT-09 Tracer sourced 849 cc inline three-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. The motor on the MT-09 Tracer, tuned for long-distance road friendly character, is rated to deliver 113 hp at 10,000 rpm and 93 Nm torque at 8,500. The upcoming middleweight adventure may get a different state of tune to match its character.

There is still no official confirmation about the upcoming middleweight from Yamaha. We’d probably hear some more news by the end of the year. Till then, let us know your views about a Yamaha adventure tourer in the middleweight segment through the comments section below.
