With the God of Thunder’s hammer stuck in its headlights, a smart looking Volvo XC90 will make its India debut on the 12th of May 2015. Although bookings might commence on the very same day, there are rumors that deliveries will only begin by the month of August. Competing against Audi’s upcoming new Q7, BMW’s X5 and Merc’s GL class SUV, the Volvo XC90 is a 7-seater that looks pretty compact and handsomely proportioned for an SUV that carries three rows of seating inside.
Based on the car maker’s Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), a modular approach which will also spawn a host of other new products, the Volvo XC90 will be available in two trims – a top-of-the-line Inscription and the Momentum trim which could be introduced by this year end. The Inscription trim comes loaded to the gills with equipment like keyless entry and go, panoramic sunroof, electrically operated tail-gate, electrically adjustable driver seat with memory function, power-folding third row backrests, rain sensing wipers, LED headlamps, Park Assist, Hill Descent Control and a iPad like 12.3-inch screen in place of the earlier instrument cluster. Cosseting you on the inside will be an opulent 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins music system, air suspension, heads-up display, heated and ventilated front seats and a cabin draped in Nappa leather with wood inserts.
This Volvo will also come with an intuitive voice control system called Sensus that will allow the occupants to talk with the car as naturally as they do in order to operate the infotainment system. While the top-of-the-line T8 plug-in hybrid and a petrol variant could be launched sometime next year, the XC90 will be initially available with Volvo’s latest 2.0 liter, four-cylinder diesel engine which cranks out 225 hp and 470 NM of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and an All-wheel drive system.
