The latest generation of Volkswagen Golf has been spotted testing in India. This is the first time that the seventh generation Golf has been caught on Indian roads. The Golf brings is the most popular car from VW’s stable in UK market and has won a lot of accolades for being a driver’s car. However, it may be noted that the Indian car market is still in developing stages and the demand for premium hatchbacks is close to non-existent. Hence, most of the carmakers shy away from launching premium 5 door hatchbacks in Indian car market.
The car that has been spotted is a RHD variant and is powered by a 1.4 litres turbocharged petrol engine. This is the same engine that will be seen powering the base petrol variant of the next gen 2013 Skoda Octavia sedan.
To the best of our knowledge, VW India has no plans of launching the new Golf in India. Volkswagen has also been caught testing the sixth generation Golf in India and all these tests have been a part of VW’s global testing program.
