Regulars here would remember that we reported in detail when the all new 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, the second generation Range Rover Sport, was unveiled with much fanfare at the New York Auto Show. Now, it is being said that the new Range Rover Sport might be launched in India during this year’s festive season.
The new Range Rover Sport definitely looks leagues ahead of the last gen car. Unlike the earlier model, which was based on the Land Rover LR3/LR4 and had a steel ladder frame, the 2014 Land Rover Range Sport is based on an all-aluminum body construction that has been borrowed from the Range Rover flagship.
The new Range Rover Sport loses 800 pounds and gains an eight-speed automatic transmission, independent suspension, ventilated four-wheel disc brakes and electric-assisted rack-and-pinion steering.
The 2014 Range Rover Sport also gets a new engine for the entry level variants- a supercharged 340-hp 3.0-liter V-6 that has been borrowed from the Jaguar XJ and XF sedans. Land Rover says that the new engine will enable the 2014 Range Rover Sport to accelerate from 0 to 96 kmph in 6.9 seconds. Other engine on offer is a 510-hp 5.0-liter V-8 that will enable the new car to accelerate to 96 kmph in 5.0 seconds. Thanks to the reduced mass, electric steering, new eight-speed transmission and an engine stop-start feature, the new car should be more fuel efficient too.
The 2014 Range Rover Sport is longer, lower, and wider than the 2013 model and offers more spacious interiors which get an optional plus-two third-row seat for children.
The interior styling is similar to that on the new Range Rover. The car will come with a 12.3-inch high-res display that replaces analogue gauges. The new car comes kitted out with lane-departure warning, traffic-sign recognition, automatic high-beam assist, Flank Guard, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision sensing, cross-car traffic detection, parallel-parking assists, and more.
