Volkswagen has recently unveiled the facelift version of the T-Cross. In this version, the carmaker has done several tweaks to the compact SUV. The chrome slat on the grille emerges with the DRLs integrated into headlights which enhances the overall look at the front. Moreover, the bumpers are tweaked with new fog lights and a reduced black portion for increasing the visual bulk.

The new T-Cross sits on the stylish new 16-inch alloy wheels and reduced black cladding for an increased visual bulk. Apart from that, the SUV has no tweaks in the side profile. The carmaker has tweaked the rear profile of the new T-Cross with new and thicker LED taillights. Moreover, the new bumper on the SUV features new reflectors and a black portion with skid plates. With similar changes, we can expect that the Indian version of VW Taigun will get a refreshed design.

Powertrain Options

The Volkswagen Taigun facelift is likely to be offered with similar powertrains as in the current version. It will be available with 2 engine and 3 gearbox options. The base engine will be a 1.0L 3-cylinder TSi unit which makes 115ps of power and 178nm of torque output. The 1.0L TSi engine will be available with either a 6-Speed Manual Transmission or a 6-Speed Automatic Transmission.

However, the real show stealer will be the 1.5L 4-cylinder TSi turbo petrol engine. It will churn out a tremendous 150ps of power and 250nm of torque output. This engine will be available with either a 6-Speed Manual Transmission or a 7-Speed DSG Transmission. Furthermore, the 1.5L TSi engine is equipped with Active Cylinder Technology which shuts down its 2-cylinders. This results in excellent fuel efficiency and reduces fuel consumption.

Launch timeline, Competition, and Opinion

The German Carmaker is gearing up to launch the facelift version of the T-Cross soon. We can expect that the T-Cross facelift will be on sale from Q4 of 2023 or Q1 of 2024 in European markets. With similar changes, we can expect the debut of the Taigun facelift in India by the next year. The facelift version of Taigun will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, MG Astor, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, etc.

Volkswagen introduced the T-Cross in 2019 in the European markets. With its launch, this SUV became an instant hit in the continent for the carmaker. Later in 2021, Volkswagen launched its India-bound version named the Taigun in India based on the MQB-A0 IN platform. With its launch, this SUV got good sales numbers initially. However, the sales numbers reduced since its rivals were refreshed with more exciting updates. Now, we can expect that the Taigun facelift will achieve more numbers once it’s launched in India.
