Volkswagen India has launched the new 1.0 Liter MPI engine for the Polo. The new engine option will replace the 1.2 MPI engine, and will be available in all the trims-level for the Polo. The new 1.0 L MPI engine is a three cylinder unit, and is rated for a peak power output of 75hp with peak torque rated at 95 Nm. The fuel efficiency for the new engine is rated at 18.78 kmpl by ARAI, which is 2.28 kmpl higher than the 1.2 MPI engine that it replaces. The prices for the new 1.0 MPI engine start at Rs INR 5,41,800 (ex-showroom) which is same as before. The prices for the entire MPI range remain unchanged and the MPI petrol range for Polo will continue selling for a price range of 5.41 – 7.42 lakh ex-showroom.
While the power remains more or less the same, as the previous 1.2 MPI petrol engine also produced about 75 hp, the torque output on the new engine is lesser by 15Nm. The 1.2 MPI petrol engine produced a peak power of 74hp@5400rpm with peak torque output rated at 110Nm@3750rpm.
In addition to the MPI petrol, the Polo is also available in the 1.5 TDI diesel and 1.2 TSI engine options. The 1.5 TDI offer 89hp of peak power and 230 Nm of torque, while the Polo GT with its 1.2 TSI engine delivers 103hp of power and 175 Nm of torque. Polo with those engine options, however, is significantly more expensive as compared with the 1.0 MPI powered variants.
