A test mule of the Suzuki Solio was recently spotted in India by Motoroids reader and fan Rahul Singh. The Solio is placed in the premium hatchback segment and is based on the WagonR platform. We’re not sure if Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce this particular vehicle in India but it has been spotted in India on various occasions in the past. It is to be noted that the Suzuki Solio was NOT displayed at Maruti Suzuki’s stall at the 2018 Auto Expo.
While the Suzuki Solio is based on the WagonR platform, it features larger dimensions than the latter. The larger dimensions would result in better interior space than the WagonR. The hatchback features a sliding rear door which would come handy in tight parking spots. At the rear, is a massive chrome strip that occupies the rear-door and merges into the tail lights.
Mechanical specifications are scarce but if at all the Solio is heading to the Indian market, we may see the hatchback use the same engine as the WagonR. Thus, expect to see the 1.0-litre K10 petrol engine that’s tuned to deliver 67 bhp of power and 91 Nm of torque, performing the propelling tasks. The engine will come mated to a five-speed manual or a AMT gearbox.
But will it come to India?
The Suzuki Solio was spotted in India on various occasions and thus it would not be completely incorrect to assume that Maruti Suzuki would be considering the possibility of bringing the hatchback to the Indian market.
We’ll wait for an official announcement till we make any further comments. Meanwhile, let us know your views about the Suzuki Solio through the comments section below.
