Volkswagen has showcased the new Golf R at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Designed to be the ultimate hot hatch, the Golf R has a sporty body kit including modified bumpers, revised side skirts and a tailgate-mounted spoiler. The model has also been equipped with LED-infused bi-xenon headlights, a quad sports exhaust system and is shod with 18-inch 10 spoke alloy wheels.

Interior changes are relatively limited but the model comes nicely equipped with cloth / Alcantara sport seats, a three-spoke sport steering wheel and “Carbon Touch” trim. It also gets illuminated door sill plates, ambient lighting and faux stainless steel pedals.

Under the hood, the Golf R gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline motor which develops 300 HP of max power and 380 Nm of torque, which is an increase of 30 HP and 30 Nm. The Golf R is driven via a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with a fifth-generation Haldex coupling that “eliminates nearly all traction losses.”  This enables the car to dismiss the 0-100 km/h mark in a scant 5.1 seconds when mated to the six-speed manual and 4.9 seconds with the optional six-speed DSG auto box.

It gets a sport-tuned suspension that makes the ride height 20mm lower than the Golf and 5mm lower than the Golf GTI. The model has also been equipped with a progressive steering system and a high-performance braking system with discs which measure 340mm front/310mm rear. Buyers also have the choice to order an optional dynamic chassis control system which has three different modes: Comfort, Normal and Sport.

The Volkswagen Golf R will go on sale later this year. We hope Volkswagen atleast launches the Golf in India for the Sporty hatchback lovers.
