Accompanying the rising configuration in smartphones for better performance is the ugly truth of overheating. Several factors can cause or worsen overheating in smartphones like heavy strain on the device’s data and graphics processors, high ambient temperatures or simply charging the device. Smartphone overheating can be disconcerting as it saps the phone’s battery life and slows processing speeds.
But Chevrolet, the US based car maker, may have a solution that is simple but yet quite effective. While testing a smartphone wireless charging feature, engineers noticed that some smartphones, equipped with built-in thermal protection features, would suspend charging or shut off altogether after only a few minutes in high temperatures inside a car’s cabin.
Chevrolet’s new Active Phone Cooling system directs cool air from the air-conditioner to the wireless charging bin, hence, reducing the temperature of the smartphone. The system protects the smartphone from overheating and reduces the chances of mechanical damages to the device. Active Phone Cooling will be available in the 2016 Chevrolet Impala, Malibu, Volt and Cruze equipped with available wireless charging.
