Suzuki had showcased a previous edition of the Swift Sport at the 2014 Auto Expo although the model was not launched in India. Now, considering the fact that the Indian customers are also looking at performance hatchbacks such as the Fiat Punto Abarth and the upcoming Volkswagen Polo GTI, Maruti definitely doesn’t want to be left behind.

A few images of the 2017 Suzuki Swift Sport made it to the web earlier this year and revealed a few details of the upcoming hatch from the brand. Cosmetic upgrades to the model include an aggressive front fascia with sharper air dams up-front and a blacked out rear diffuser sitting above the twin exhaust pipe setup.

The upcoming Swift Sport will also ditch the 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine for a 1.4-litre turbocharged Boosterjet engine. This motor could be tuned to produce a power output of 140 hp while the peak torque could be rated 220 Nm. With the weight expected to be below the 1000 kg mark, the new Swift Sport could sprint from 0-100 kmph in less than 9 seconds. If all goes as planned, the engine is likely to be built at the company’s Manesar plant, which currently manufactures the 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine. Expect the upcoming Swift and Swift Sport to make their debut next year at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March. An India launch could follow soon, and if introduced in India, the Swift Sport could command a price tag of about Rs. 8.5 lakh.
