The new Maruti Suzuki Celerio will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2014 and will go on sale soon thereafter. CLICK HERE to read about all the 40 odd cars that are headed our way in 2014.

The new Maruti Suzuki Celerio’s Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) will be marked as ‘EZ Drive’. An AMT totally does away with the requirement of depressing the clutch pedal when toggling between the gears. AMTs not just make driving in traffic conditions a lot more hassle free but also bestow the car with better fuel efficiency figures than manual gearboxes!

A recent report on IBN Times states that sometime in near future, the Celerio will also get a new, two cylinder, 800cc diesel engine. This diesel engine is being developed ‘in-house’ by MSIL and could also find itself under the hood of WagonR tallboy! The upcoming diesel engine is likely to have a max power of around 35bhp and ARAI rated fuel economy of around 25kmpl, which will make it among the most frugal motors around.

While much about the Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel variant can only be speculated at this moment, it is very much for sure that the petrol variant will be powered by the same 1 litre, 3 pot, K10 petrol engine that powers the AStar, Estilo and the WagonR. This 3 pot petrol engine has a max power of 67PS and a claimed FE figure of around 21 kmpl.

While the Maruti Suzuki Celerio will replace the Alto in most international markets, the upcoming model will be a replacement for the low selling AStar and the defunct Estilo in our market.
