Upcoming Bentley SUV may cost more than 130,000 GBP

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is not only a place for displaying cars. It’s also a platform which companies use to interact with media and general public. So a lot of information is shared at such events.

A recent report from Autocar UK speaks about Bentley’s boss Wolfgang Dürheimer confirming a price point of the upcoming SUV at above the £130,000 (approximately Rs 1.33 crore) mark.

In an interview to Autocar, Dürheimer said, “All of the current luxury SUVs, the BMW X5s, the AMG-powered Mercedes, the Range Rovers, they all end at around €160,000 (£128,208 – approximately Rs 1.63 crore).” “We aim to solve this problem,” he further added.

However, the upcoming SUV will not be the flagship model as Bentley’s Mulsanne will stay as company’s halo model.

The SUV is expected to be powered by a tried and tested V8 or W12 powerplant from the car maker’s stable. A petrol-electric hybrid will also reach the audience at a later stage. This luxury SUV from Bentley is likely to go on sale in 2016 and the manufacturer has already planned to invest more than £800 million and the an addition of 1,000 jobs in its Crewe plant for the development of new models.

The SUV will likely borrow its design ideas from the Continental GT and Flying Spur which will probably be mixed with concept’s styling. Hopefully, the SUV will not retain many things from the much criticised concept.
