UM Adventure Tourer India Launch On Schedule; Cafe Racer And Scrambler To Come First

Remember the Adventure Tourer motorcycle that UM was planning for the Indian market? Well, in an recent interaction with Rajeev Mishra, CEO, UM Lohia Two-Wheelers and Jose Villages, Director, UM India, Motoroids India learnt that the model that the brand suggested back in September 2016 is on schedule and we should expect to see the motorcycle in the Indian market in the next 12-18 months. The Miami based manufacturer will launch a higher displacement version of its adventure tourer, the UM DSR Adventure TT 125 EFI which is already up on sale in the European markets.

The India spec adventure motorcycle will most likely be powered by a 300cc single-cylinder engine. Speaking to Motoroids India at the launch of the new Renegade Commando Classic and Mojave, Rajeev Mishra said, “Adventure has a future and although the market is very small, the consumers are looking forward to have a real adventure motorcycle. Yes, we intend to get into that segment but we’re currently doing market research and study. We will be definitely in the adventure motorcycle space within next 12-18 months because we see there is a vacuum in that segment.”

Jose Villages added that the adventure motorcycle will arrive with a host of accessories and an competitive price tag. He added that the Company aims to launch the motorcycle around the INR 2 lakh mark.

UM will also venture into the cafe racer and scrambler segment of motorcycles and we should see those products at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi. Speaking about its upcoming products for the Indian market, Mishra added, “Within cruisers, we’re looking at different segments like cafe racers and scramblers. Those are the few products that we have ready and we will be displaying them at the 2018 Auto Expo and launching them soon.”

UM Motorcycles will also be launching two new motorcycles at the upcoming EICMA motorcycle show. Speaking about the products that will be heading to EICMA, Mishra said, “We’re launching two motorcycles at the upcoming EICMA motorcycle show in Italy scheduled in November 2017. One will be adventure while the other will be an electric motorcycle.”

Villages confirmed that the electric motorcycle that is scheduled to be launched at the 2017 EICMA show will be a cruiser that will come equipped with an automatic and a manual transmission, which can be toggled at a push of a button. The cruiser will also get optional battery pack which will extend the overall range of the motorcycle to well over 200 kms. Moreover, the optional fast charger will recharge the batteries by upto 80% in just 45 minutes. Sadly though, the electric cruiser will not be coming to India anytime soon.

The future for the brand looks promising and the addition of the new products will extend its reach to a wider audience base. We’ll keep you posted about more details of the upcoming products as and when they arrive. Stay tuned.
