UM Motorcycles forms JV with Lohia Auto to take on Royal Enfield

Soon after showcasing their bikes at the Auto Expo 2014, UM Motorcycles had announced that they would be entering into a JV to assemble and sell the bikes in India. Now, according to a latest report, it has surfaced that the American motorcycle maker has entered into a 50:50 JV with Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer Lohia auto.

With the joint venture, UM Motorcyles aims to manufacture and market a full new range of motorcycles. The manufacturing facility will be located in Kashipur, Uttarakhand utilizing Lohia Auto current facility with a capacity to produce 1,00,000 units per year.

The production from the plant is expected to commence around the second quarter of 2015. The overall investment in the joint venture company over a definitive period will be approximately Rs 120 cr, part of which has already been invested in manufactring production facility and R&D.
