Toyota Calya mini-MPV rendered; India bound?

Toyota Calya render

Last week, spy images of what could possibly be Toyota’s mini-MPV Calya hit the web. Now, based on these spy images (gallery below), the Calya has been speculatively rendered. To be based on the Agya hatchback that’s already on sale in Indonesia, the Calya’s exterior design seems to be inspired by the Agya itself, apart from the new Innova Crysta. When it goes on sale in Indonesia in the upcoming months, it’ll be positioned between the Agya and the Avanaza MPV.

The Calya willl be sold as an LCGC in Indonesia, which means that it’ll be manufactured in the country at a high localization rate with petrol engine displacing between 980 cc – 1,200 cc. The Calya should accommodate seven occupants, and is expected to be powered by the Etios sourced 1.2-litre petrol engine, which is good for 80 PS and 103.95 Nm of torque, which should be paired to a 5-speed manual or an automatic transmission.

So is the Calya coming to India anytime soon? Well, the National Green Tribunal’s controversial decision to ban registration of new diesel vehicles with a displacement of 2000 cc and above in major Indian cities have put most major manufacturers off, Toyota Kirloskar Motor being one of them. The Japanese manufacturer even went to the extent of contemplating withholding future Indian launches. The Calya, on the other hand looks like an interesting proposition, as it’ll comfortably fall under the sub-2000 cc mark, even with the Etios’s 1.5-litre diesel engine.
