Bajaj Auto Human Resources’ President Amrut Kumar Rath (47) and his wife Padmaja (45) passed away in a fatal accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expessway. Their daughter Adisha (18) and son Alman (10) have suffered serious injuries and are currently being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Lokmanya Hospital in Nigdi. The family had gone to Mumbai to drop Rath’s sister and were travelling back to Pune when their BMW hit the median of the expressway at Malavli.

Heavy rains and wet roads are being cited as the reason for the mishap. Shankar Awatade, Police inspector of the Nigdi police station said that it had rained heavily in the morning at the spot of the accident and there was a slight drizzle when the vehicle crashed into the median.

Their children, Adisha and Alman, have sustained joint dislocation and fractures in the accident. Doctors of Lokmanya Hospital told newspaper daily TOI, “Adisha suffered a hip dislocation and pelvic injuries. The hip dislocation has been immediately taken care of. Though she is still in the ICU, her condition is stable. Alman has sustained abdominal trauma and has fractured his right femur (thigh) bone. His condition is critical but stable. Both children were conscious-oriented at the time of admission.”
