As far as base variants go, the new Huracán LP 580-2 is the cheapest Lamborghini on sale today. And quite possibly, the most fun to drive one as well, because it’s rear wheel driven only. Like its nemesis, the Gallardo LP550-2, the Huracán LP 580-2 ditches the all-wheel drive system, gets lighter, while also featuring a slight drop in power.

The naturally aspirated V10 5.2 litre engine now makes 580 hp instead of 610 hp, but all of the former, along with 540 Nm of torque is now sent to the rear axle, via the same 7-speed double-clutch automatic transmission from the LP610-4. The slight drop in power should be negated with weight savings, as the Huracán LP 580-2’s dry weight is just 1,389 kg; 33 kg lighter than the all-wheel-drive version. The LP 580-2 claims a 0-100 kph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed at 199 miles per hour – respectively 0.2 seconds and 3 mph slower than the LP 610-4.

The Huracán LP 580-2 can be specified with the optional Magneto Rheological Suspension (MRS), with the ESC being recalibrated in accordance with the new rear-wheel drive system. It also sits on new, different-sized (front/rear) 19″ Kari rims, which are wrapped around new Pirelli PZero tyres, exclusively developed for the car.  Braking is now handled with steel rotors coupled with aluminum brake disc calipers, unlike the LP 610-4’s carbon ceramic setup. The  STRADA, SPORT and CORSA driving modes are now tuned to encourage controllable over-steer.

To visually differentiate the 580 from the 610, the former features a newly designed front bumper with large, newly formed, functional air intakes. The rear end also receives subtle alterations, along with a new diffuser. The interiors continue unchanged, and the LP 580-2 is available in the full range of Huracán external and internal colors and trims. The Huracán LP 580-2 is available at a suggested retail price of 150,000 Euros + tax (Europe), significantly cheaper than the LP 610-4’s listed price of 201,000 Euros. Expect the Huracán LP 580-2 to spawn a Spider version soon, as well as making an Indian entry sometime next year.
