Moto Guzzi unveiled its third Scramber installment at the EICMA, the 2016 V7 II Stornello. This bike is aimed to redefine the Italian marque’s ancient origins in the segment. The first version of the Stornello hit the markets back in the 1960s. The Guzzi Stornellos then, rode on less than 200cc and were discontinued in the late 1970s. But now it’s back.

The all new 2016 Stornello is powered by an 744cc transversely-mounted air-cooled V-twin V7 II engine, which generates 48.6PS at 6200 rpm and an impressive maximum torque of 60 Nm at 2800 rpm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox and will feature Weber-Marelli electronic fuel injection. The Stornello also benefits from changes made to the V7 II range, including revised gear ratios for the 6-speed transmission and a softer clutch that requires less effort to operate.  As compared to its V9 cousins, the Stornello is lighter and a bit underpowered.

The Stornello scrambler is optimised for low-intensity off-road use. The spoked wheels with offroad tyres and inclusion of footpegs kit will allow the Stornello to take down adventurous off-roads slowly. Other special bits include a high-mounted Arrow exhaust (with heat shields), longer seat and lower seating position, knobby tyres, fork dust boots and mudguards. With all the retro style and stance, Moto Guzzi has squeezed in some modern rider assistance systems such as ABS and Traction Control, both of which can be switched off.

The Stornello scrambler is part of Guzzi’s new V7 II range, which includes the Stone, Special and Racer variants. Only 1,000 models of these variants will be produced. Overall, the 2016 Moto Guzzi V7 II Stornello is a cool looking fun scrambler, but not be taken seriously. Ducati, BMW and Triumph are playing a strong game here as they have unveiled an army of scramblers.
