The new BMW 3 Series sedan has been launched today, with prices starting from INR 35, 90,000. For now, the new 3 Series will be available with one diesel engine and four design schemes: Prestige, Sports Line, Luxury Line and M Sport. The new BMW 3 Series is locally produced at BMW Plant Chennai and can be ordered at BMW dealerships across India from today onwards. The petrol variant will be launched later in 2016, ending a lull of BMW petrol engines for its mainstream cars in India.
The all India ex-showroom prices for diesel variants are as follows –
- BMW 320d Prestige: INR 35, 90,000
- BMW 320d Sport Line (Navigation): INR 41, 50,000
- BMW 320d Luxury Line (Navigation): INR 41, 50,000
- BMW 320d M Sport: INR 44, 50,000
Essentially a mid-cycle refresh of the current F80 generation, the new 3 Series comes with a series of blink-and-you-miss-it changes to the exteriors, along with subtle interior updates. Up front, the bonnet gets fresh sculpting while the headlamps gain a new LED signature. The broader side air intakes, full LED taillamps arranged in ‘L’ shapes, along with a newly designed front and a rear bumper round of the refreshed exteriors.
Inside, seats in the new BMW 3 Series are electrically adjustable on both the driver and front seat passenger sides. The ambience is improved further with chrome highlights, high-gloss surfaces and ambient lighting.
Sport Line
The new BMW 3 Series Sedan Sport Line features the kidney grille slats finished in high-gloss black. On the inside, contrasts between black and red are predominant: red contrast rings on the round gauges of the instrument panel, including sporting chrono scaling, red contrast stitching on the sports steering wheel and a basic decorative trim strip in high-gloss black with coral red accentuated strip. Additional upholstery options are also available with Sport Line. As a distinctive feature of the Sport Line, the vehicle key is designed in black with a red decorative strip.
Luxury Line
The new BMW 3 Series Sedan with Luxury Line features design elements made of high-gloss chrome, while the vehicle key is designed in black with a chrome-plated decorative strip.
M Sport
The M Sport version is equipped with the M aerodynamic package, an M leather steering wheel, front sports seats and Driving Experience Control switch with additional Sport+ mode. It features the BMW Navigation System Professional and full colour BMW Head-up Display which projects vital driving information into the driver’s line of sight. The M Sport variant is also available in the new leather upholstery options with accents.
The new BMW 3 Series will be powered by the TwinPower Turbo diesel engine, which combines common rail direct injection and a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. The engine develops 190 hp and a torque of 400 Nm, which is available at 1,750 – 2,500 rpm. The new BMW 320d accelerates to 100 km/hr in 7.2 seconds with the ability to achieve a top speed of 230 km/hr. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The new BMW 3 Series Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport feature Shift Paddles for facilitating more convenient manual gear shifts.
Other technological highlights of the new BMW 3 Series include features such as Auto Start-Stop, ECO PRO mode, Brake-Energy Regeneration, Intelligent Lightweight Construction, Electronic Power Steering, 50:50 Weight Distribution and many other innovative technologies. The new 3 Series also offers different driving modes to suit the driving conditions (ECO PRO, Comfort, Sport and Sport+).
Colours available for the new 3 Series include Alpine White as non-metallic colour and Black Sapphire, Platinum Silver, Jatoba, Imperial Blue Brilliant Effect, Melbourne Red, Mediterranean Blue and Estoril Blue as metallic colours.
