Tata Confirms Working on a Mini SUV Based on Vista Platform

It has now been confirmed that Indian auto giant Tata Motors is developing a Mini SUV to take on the likes of Mahindra Quanto and Renault Duster. The confirmation comes from the new R&D chief at Tata Motors, Tim Leverton. Not much is known about the upcoming Tata Mini SUV save for the info that underpinning it would be the car maker’s X1 platform.

The X1 platform currently underpins the Vista hatchback and Manza C segment sedan. All this means that the Aria based Mini crossover might never see the light of the day. Powering the Tata Mini SUV would be a highly re-tuned variant of the 1.4 litre CR4 oil burner with power output of close to 95PS.

It may be noted that Mahindra shocked us with employing a twin turbo set up for the Quanto’s low capacity diesel motor and we won’t be too surprised if Tata motors comes up with an equally surprising solution to bump up the power output of its 1.4 litres oil burner.
