BMW seems to be on the launchpad all the time. We cannot really think of a car manufacturer as active as the Bavarian automaker. We recently posted in detail about the upcoming BMW 4 Series Coupe and Convertible and now, we have some details on the upcoming BMW 2 Series cars!
The good blokes at AutoEvolution have managed to click spy shots of the upcoming 2’er.
The BMW 2 Series would be to the 1 series what the 4 series is to the 3 series. Simply speaking, the 1 series coupe and convertible will get the 2 Series moniker. BMW feels that such re-branding exercise will allow them to add more value to its new cars.
The BMW 2 Series cars will be smaller than the 3 series but larger than the current 1 Series Coupe.
The BMW 2 Series would sit on the same platform as the 1 Series and the coupe and convertible will be extensively re-engineered for more length and increased interior space.
The 4 cylinder 2.0 litre petrol engine will be retained from the 1 series, but tuned to offer better punch in variations of 150, 177 and 218 bhp. As an easy guess, also on offer will be a 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel motor peaking out a healthy 214 bhp. A 6 speed manual transmission will be standard across all models with an optional 8 speed automatic gearbox. An all wheel-drive (x-Drive) might also make it as a standard feature on the 2 series.
The 2 series cars will look nothing like the 1 Series and the 2 Series is being said to be much more appealing with slimmer headlights, larger front air intakes and a more prominent kidney grille.
Safely expect the 2 series to get a M version in near future and the M2 will be a spiritual successor to the 1 M Coupe. However, the M2 will be much sharper and more powerful than the 1M.

Looks like BMW is raking up its arsenal for an onslaught against its other German rivals. Mercedes and Audi, all we can say is “Achtung Baby”!
