Maruti Suzuki, the king of Indian small car market, is planning to come up with a range of new products to combat the ever increasing competition.
One of the new cars that are header our way is the Compact Sedan variant of the A-Star hatchback. The Compact Sedan variant will be based on the next generation A-Star and would debut soon after the hatchback variant. The A-Star CS will be positioned below the Swift Dzire and will become the cheapest sedan in MSIL’s stable. The automaker is planning to price the car very aggressively and expect the selling price of the A-Star CS to undercut that of some premium B segment hatchbacks.
The The next generation Alto/A-Star will be a global model and it is expected that Maruti would export the A-Star compact sedan to other developing car markets.
The Maruti Suzuki A-Star Compact Sedan will be powered by a re-worked 1.2 litre K Series petrol motor. Given the fast increasing popularity of diesel cars in India, MSIL is sure to also come up with a diesel variant of the A-Star CS.
