Sports segment prime focus for Bajaj's growth

Bajaj Auto has been riding high on the success of their new Discover. Although still a good distance away, the company is inching closer to the no.1 spot with a plan. The recent Hero and Honda split has only heightened the spirits of the Indian bike maker. The company now wants to work harder on increasing its market share to 25 from the current 23 percent vy the end of the current fiscal.

The company has always ruled the roost in the sports bike segment with its Pulsar, and would be focusing on the segment to leverage growth. Addition of part owned KTM’s products to the company’s lineup, introduction of new Kawasaki models and most importantly, the introduction of a brand new range of Pulsar motorcycles should boost the sales of the company in the performance segment.

The KTM 125 Duke is already making a lot of news in the European countries. A biiger engined variant of the same bike is lined up for an India launch too by the end of this year.

The new Pulsars are expected to be totally overhauled products, not just in terms of styling and design, but on the technology and performance too. expect a slew of new features, technologies and bigger engines when the new range of Pulsars emerge on the horizon. Murmurs of a twin cylinder Pulsar have also been heard, so the expectation are really high.

Bajaj have traditionally been the undisputed price champions, irrespective of the segment their products reside in. If at all a bigger version of the Pulsar is being readied, it would, in all probability match or even undercut the CBR250R. Bajaj has had a rather calm past year with no significant launches in the performance segment. Expect all that to change by the end of the year 2011.
