Earlier this week, we reported the sighting of the crossover version of Hyundai’s recently introduced hatchback, the Elite i20. A heavily disguised test mule of this upcoming crossover was spotted testing on Chennai-Bengaluru highway.
The i20 crossover was again spotted in Chennai. But this time, a test mule of Hyundai Verna facelift also accompanied the i20 crossover. The Verna is sold as the Solaris in global markets. Recently, the Solaris received an update in Russia and China. So it’s not a big secret as to how the new Verna would look like. The new Verna will receive newly designed headlamps, daytime running lights, new front with dual chrome grille and a new rear bumper.
The Hyundai Solaris
Mechanically, the car is likely to remain the same. So expect to see the same 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines that are found on the current generation Verna. The 1.6-litre petrol engine churns out 121 hp of power and 155 Nm of torque. The 1.6-litre diesel, on the other hand, puts out 126 hp of power and 259 Nm of torque. The current generation Verna also comes with a 1.4-litre diesel unit which pumps out 89 hp of power and 224 Nm of torque. The gearbox options would include a five-speed manual gearbox for petrol and a six-speed manual for diesel. A six-speed automatic transmission will also make way in the upcoming Verna.
The i20 Crossover is expected to come with a 1,197cc, Dual VTVT, Kappa Petrol Engine that would develop 83 PS of power and 117 Nm of torque and a 1,396cc, CRDI, Diesel engine that would put out 90 PS of power and 224 Nm of torque. The test mule was equipped with roof rails, new alloy wheels and slightly higher ground clearance. We also expect to see loads of plastic claddings on the i20 crossover.
