Upcoming Hyundai ix25 was pictured conducting test trials in Chennai.
The compact crossover/SUV segment in India is hotting up every day. Manufacturers are scrambling to fill in this vast space and carmakers such as Renault and Ford (among others), have already played their card. The former with the Duster and the latter with the EcoSport. Hyundai has been keen to join in and their trump card is being called the ix25. The Hyundai ix25 compact SUV has been caught (again) conducting test trials in Chennai by IAB. We mentioned before that to keep the pricing competitive, the ix25 will have at least 90% of its components made locally.
The ix25 will feature the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design principle.
We reckon the compact SUV to be powered by the same engines that power the newly launched Verna 4S saloon. This means that there’s 4 engines, two of which, will surely find themselves under the bonnet of the ix25. It could likely be the 1.6-litre VTVT 4-cylinder GAMMA petrol engine and the 1.6-litre 4-cylinder diesel. The former makes 123 PS of max power. The CRDi motor makes a healthy 128 PS of power at 4000 rpm and 260 Nm of twist between 1900 – 2750 rpm. The petrol engine is likely to come mated to a slick 5-speed manual gearbox, while the diesel could use a 6-speed manual affair.
Expect loads of equipment on the top-spec ix25.
It won’t be impractical to expect the top-end model of the Hyundai ix25 to be loaded to the gills with features and equipment. The compact SUV is likely to offer a panoramic sunroof, climate control, LED DRLs, multifunction steering wheel, a touchscreen multimedia system with Bluetooth function, cruise control, keyless go, reverse parking camera etc. However, it will be a while before we can be certain whether some of these will make their way into this car (most will). There will also be a multitude of safety tech like ABS, EBD, airbags, just to name a few. It’s unclear if the ix25 will be offered in a 4×4 trim, but since rivals like the Renault Duster does, it is likely that Hyundai might too.
Those diamond-cut alloys could be seen on the top-end trim of the ix25.
Thanks to the scale of localisation, the prices for the Hyundai ix25 compact SUV are expected to be between INR 8-12 lakh. The ix25 is expected to be launched post July, mostly around August of 2015. We will keep you posted on the this upcoming Hyundai and be sure to follow Motoroids for up-to-date information on the happenings of the industry.
