A test mule of the Aprilia SR 150 has been spied undisguised at one of the company’s dealerships located in Pune, Maharashtra. The model seen in the images was reportedly being taken to the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for homologation purposes ahead of its launch that is likely to take place in the month of August. The SR150 will be manufactured at Piaggio’s plant located in Baramati, Maharashtra.
Propelling the model will be a 150 cc engine as seen on the Vespa. The only difference being that this engine will come in a different state of tune than the Vespa’s motor that produces 10.4 bhp of power and 11.4 Nm of torque. This air cooled 3 valve engine will send power to the rear wheel with the help of a CVT transmission that will be considerably different from the one seen on the Vespa.
Set to be India’s first Sport-Scooterbike, the SR 150 was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo held in February. The model will come equipped with 14 inch tyres wrapped in sport street tyres. Braking duties will be performed by a 220 mm disc brake and a 140 mm drum brake at the front and rear respectively.
Piaggio India has not revealed any details regarding the prices although it is believed that the SR 150, once launched, will command a price tag in the range of Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 1 lakh.
