SIAM: Sales of passenger cars declines for eight consecutive month, sales of M&HCVs decline for 16 consecutive months

The auto industry produced a total of 1,619,328 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers and two wheelers in June 2013 as against 1,699,714 in June 2012, registering a decline of (-) 4.73 percent over the same month last year.

The overall domestic sales during April-June 2013 quarter declined by (-) 2.10 percent over the same period last year.

The sales of Passenger Vehicles declined by (-) 7.24 percent during April-June 2013 over the same period last year. Within the Passenger Vehicles, passenger cars and vans dropped by (-) 10.41 percent and (-) 5.97 percent respectively, while utility vehicles grew by 5.27 percent during April-June 2013 compared to the same period last year.

The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a de-growth of (-) 8.12 percent in April-June 2013 quarters as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered negative growth at (-) 15.52 percent and Light Commercial Vehicles also dropped by (-) 3.94 percent.

Three Wheelers sales declined by (-) 2.38 percent in April-June 2013 over the same period last year. Passenger Carriers and Goods Carriers also declined by (-) 2.44 percent and (-) 2.15 percent respectively in April-June 2013 over April-June 2012.

Two Wheelers segment registered de-growth of (-) 0.82 percent during April-June 2013 over April-June 2012. Within the Two Wheelers segment mopeds and motorcycles declined by (-) 11.06 percent and (-) 3.98 percent respectively, while scooters grew by 14.30 percent in April-June 2013 over April-June 2012.

During April-June 2013 overall automobile exports declined by (-) 5.65 percent. Passenger Vehicles Commercial vehicles and Two Wheelers declined by (-) 3.54 percent, (-) 26.17 percent and (-) 12.53 percent respectively compared to the same period last year. Three Wheelers segment however, grew by 56.62 percent in April-June 2013 over April-June 2012.
