Renault India issues clarification on KWID : No engine issues whatsoever, production ramped up

Renault KWID (5)A couple of days back we reported, on the back of a TOI story, that Renault was facing some issues with about 1500 nos of its engines for the KWID at the Oragadam. The original report suggested that the company had put a halt to the production of the KWID at its plant. However, in an official statement Renault India has dismissed the reports. In fact, the company states that the production of the KWID at its Oragadam plant has been ramped up owing to an increase in demand. Here’s the official statement from Renault India, clarifying the issue

Renault India would like to bring to notice that the news article titled ‘Renault Halts KWID Output’ that appeared in Times of India dated May 17 is factually incorrect and misleading. The article claims that 1,500 engines have been scrapped due to high noise levels. This is incorrect and Renault had no such concerns at its end.

Renault India recently ramped up production at our Chennai facility by starting third shift operations to cater to market demand. Moreover, Renault India is also increasing the speed of our production line. In addition to the maintenance shutdown planned towards the end of May, Renault India has decided to slow down production since last week in order to ensure a perfect execution of the ramp up of our production volumes.

Renault India would like to reiterate and reinforce that the company remains fully confident in the mid and long-term growth prospects of its business in India. Over the next few years, Renault India will further strengthen its position in the market and be a significant player in India’s dynamic auto market.
