The 5 will be the Chinese-Israeili manufacturer’s fourth crack at motoring, after three different iterations of the Qoros 3, which include a hatchback, sedan and a crossover. The 5 is a full-size SUV, and has been previewed before its public debut at the upcoming Guangzhou Motor Show.

The design is a little iffy, and being of Chinese origin, has its fair share of cues from other manufacturers’ wares. For example, the headlamps and front fenders shout out to the Range Rover Evoque, while the rounded tail section and tail lamps have hints of the Mini countryman in it. The glasshouse also looks eerily familiar to the Kia Sportage. All of this doesn’t come as a surprise, since the design team was lead by former Volkswagen and Mini designer Gert Hildebrand. However, everything seems well put together and decidedly upmarket.

Power is expected to come from the same 1.6-liter four cylinder petrol mill that powers the Qoros 3 family. The engine could come in both naturally aspirated or turbocharged guises, mated to a six-speed manual or a dual-clutch transmission. Expect front-wheel drive to come standard, with all-wheel drive offered as an option. Qoros is focused predominantly on selling cars in China, though is determined to spread throughout Europe. Currently its sole European dealership is in Slovakia.
