Hindustan Motors with their JV with Mitsubishi in India only managed to draw some attention with their globally well known Lancer sedan and Pajero SUV. The Cedia, Outlander and Montero didn’t do as well. Since around a year Pajero enthusiasts (although those willing to buy one are still very low) are waiting for the Pajero Sports to arrive and if one has to go by the buzz, it seem finally it’s all set to make its Indian debut.
Folks at ACI have confirmed the news that the Pajero Sports will be seen in the Auto Expo 2012. Pajero should have got the car way back because the current Pajero looks dated in front of the hot selling Toyota Fortuner whose numbers are growing by the day. The Outlander, which is a contemporary and stylish products lacks a diesel engine and thus doesn’t sell too well in these times where petrol has become rarer and dearer than nectar.
The engine which may appear on the Pajero Sports can be the 2.5-liter 16-valve inline-4 intercooled turbocharged DOHC diesel producing 136PS of power and 314Nm of torque. Equipped with ABS, Airbags, EBD, Collapsible steering column, Reverse Camera, Cruise Control & 2 DIN touchscreen, the Pajero Sports looks like a rather advanced piece of kit.The new version of the SUV will be sportier looking than the present one and would accommodate 7 people.
Pricing should be aggressive at around the same price of the existing Pajero say 20-23 lakh. Would you buy the Pajero Sport over the Fortuner at the same price?
