The rapidly developing, Okinawa Scooters, is India’s first electric two-wheeler manufacturing company that is now eligible for the FAME-II approval and incentivization. The company has now received the certificate of eligibility from the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) which is the prime testing and certification agency appointed by the Government of India. Okinawa received this certification for its lithium-ion scooters, the Okinawa I-Praise and the Okinawa Ridge+. This means customers will now be able to enjoy a subsidy of Rs 17,000 – Rs 26,000 based on the battery size.
The FAME-II is an ambitious government project, specially planned to promote the ‘Make In India’, movement. The primary goal of this project is to strengthen the EV (Electric Vehicle) eco-system while maintaining favourable policies between the industry and its customers, which means they require the EV manufacturers to have around 50% local content in electric vehicles if they want to avail the incentive offer. The OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) will get the eligibility certificate for facilitating registration of their vehicles under FAME-II, while the testing agencies will also have to ensure compliance of the Phased Manufacturing Programme (PMP) as per the guidelines set by the Department of Heavy Industry or the Government of India.
After all these tests, Okinawa products have managed meet all the government parameters which include the speed of around 40kmph, a range of about 80 km per charge and 50% Localization and incentivizing on the lithium-ion battery capacity. This approval provided the Okinawa products with a strong position in the Indian EV industry, showing that they firmly believe in the ‘Make in India’ Movement.

For Okinawa Ridge+ & i-Praise the subsidy would be between Rs 17000 – Rs 26000 based on KWH.
