It has emerged that the Volkswagen Phaeton, the flagship sedan in German auto giant’s product portfolio, is about to get a complete model replacement. The next gen car is expected to have best in class features and specifications and this news comes straight from VW development chief Heinz-Jakob Neusser, who made these revelations at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show 2014.

Neusser has been quoted as saying,“the next Phaeton has to be class leading” and “very smooth and luxurious”.
It may be noted that in spite of the fact that the Phaeton never sold really well, Neusser feels that a complete model replacement is important as it is the technology flagship for Volkswagen and allows the car maker to introduce advanced systems through it and later, after studying the response to these systems, apply them seamlessly to mainstream cars.
“We use all the technology and develop it for other VWs and group brands,” said Neusser. “It’s actually got a very attractive business case.”
