Maruti Suzuki India’s total vehicle sales witnessed a downfall of 11.4 percent. The total sales were reported at 86,196 units in April 2014 as opposed to 97,302 units in the same period last year. Sales of entry level hatchbacks, including Alto, A-Star and Wagon R, declined 25.4% to 26,043 units as against 34,927 units on an year on year basis. So what can Maruti Suzuki do to face competition which is getting stiffer by the hour?

Well, the answer may lie in the new spy shots of the upcoming Maruti Alto K10 that have surfaced over the internet. These shots are more revealing as the car is not wrapped in camouflage. The spy shots show that this edition of Alto K10 will receive new headlights and tail lamps. The new Alto K10 is expected to hit the Indian roads next year.

Maruti Suzuki had said that the new Alto K10 will come with an option of automatic gearbox which is also found in the new Celerio. Since Alto K10 sports the same engine as Celerio, the addition of automatic gearbox should not be a problem.

The Alto K10 will face competition from Datsun Go and Hyundai Eon 1.0L. However, it will have an upper hand in the competition because of the automatic gearbox.

The new Alto K10 will be Rs 40,000 dearer than the manual version as the automatic gearbox will add to the cost. Will the consumers spend that extra buck for the automatic version remains to be seen. But Maruti Suzuki will definitely have an advantage of having an extra product in market.
