Regulars here would know that we recently spent a couple of days sampling the upcoming 2013 Skoda Octavia in the north of the country. The new Skoda Octavia was unveiled in India in early August and is expected to go on sale in the first half of October. It may be noted that Skoda refrained from disclosing variants and tech specs back when it unveiled the new car in India. However, the same were revealed during the media drive last week and our friends at Rushlane have done a good job with compiling all these details and presenting them to us.

As we have been telling our readers, the new Octavia will be launched in India with two petrol and one diesel engine option. The car will be sold in three trim levels- Active (base), Ambition (mid) and Elegance (top).

The new Octy will have the following engine options for India

  • Internationally acclaimed 1.4 litre TSI Petrol engine
  • The 1.8 TSi Petrol engine from the Laura
  • The 2.0 TDi Diesel engine, again from the Laura

The 1.4TSi Petrol engine makes 140PS for the new Octy and comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This engine has a torque of 250Nm, while the fuel economy is being claimed to be 16.8kmpl. The Octy 1.4 will be available only in Activa and Ambition trim levels.

It may be noted that the 1.8TSi motor, which comes from Laura vRS, now makes 180PS (versus 160PS before) and also bestows the new Octy with 250Nm of torque. The engine also gets a new 7-speed DSG box with Tiptronic function. The claimed fuel efficiency for this motor is rated at 14.7kmpl.  This 1.8 TSi will be sold only in the Elegance trim.

The 2.0 Litre diesel motor will have 143PS of max power for the Octy, a full 3PS more than what it delivered for the Laura. Torque, however, remains the same at 320Nm. The transmission options would include both a 6-speed manual and a DSG box. Claimed fuel efficiency for manual-gearbox variant is 20.6kmpl and is 19.3kmpl for the DSG equipped variant. The manual transmission equipped Octy diesel will be available only in Active and Ambition trim and the DSQ equipped car will be available in Ambition and Elegance trim level. It is being speculated that the top end DSG equipped variant would have an ex showroom price of INR 17.6 lakhs.
